Documentary: Transsexuals in Iran - part 1/4 por mut_dua

An amazing documentary about how the Iranian government forces homosexuals into sex change operations to preserve tradition and eradicate the possibility of living a happy life as gay people in Islamic societies.

The story includes a doctor making big business with this operations, the struggle of young people to get their rights as human beings, even as little rights as women have, the strict vision of the Islamic government, the law and rulers, the point of view of their families who have to endure social punishment. Homosexuals and Lesbians make their decision to change their gender even because of not having other options.

More than 1450 operations have been performed by this clinic, where the government pays half the cost and each family has to cover the other 50%. After Thailand, Iran is today the country whit the record of more sex change surgeries performed.

This exhibition presents sexual diversity as something universal to all cultures, it has been created for young people between the ages of 12 and 20, so they can understand that there is a wide range of options for their sexual life both now and trough their lives. It contains an appreciation of multiple legacies of Human Experience in different times and places.

Amor Universal Love will present photographic works, publications, film and objects, and will tour public libraries, schools and educational venues in Europe.

Active participation in the social Imaginarium of each collectivity has enormous bearing on the manner in which its existence is played out and its validity upheld, thus providing meaningful cultural perceptions about each groups co existential roles. . At present, there have been few visible cultural manifestations attesting to a meaningful participation of the GLBT community in our countrys daily public life. In the realm of cultural products, it is difficult to encounter specific manifestations of the dynamics of the members of the GLBT community-namely, symbols and expressions of the creativity, the lifestyle, ideas and experiences inherent to this particular milieu.

David Wojnarovic, Dennis Cooper, Barbra Hammer, Mariette Pathy Allen, Carlos Gutierrez-Solana, Jorge Veras, Santiago Echeverry, Sandra Rengifo, Elisabeth Ohlson Wallin, Mujeres al Borde, among others.

Amor Universal Love es un proyecto de divulgación y visibilización de la hisoria de la diversidad sexual, que a través de una exposición itinerante, charlas, talleres, publicaciones y audiovisuales presenta al público los logros y anécdotas de personajes y sucesos que han transformado el arte y la hsitoria desde una perspectiva de la diversidad sexual y de género.

Abrimos la puerta para que artistas, productores audiovisuales, educadores, investigadores, fotógrafos, escritores, entidades y personas interesadas en hacer propuestas, se unan al proyecto de Amor Universal Love.

Se trata simplemente una estrategia de marketing político. la tan mencionada Jornada de Juventudes , busca reclutar votantes para el PP (partido popular) dado que se acercan las elecciones y traerles al papa es como traer a lady gaga para un joven normal. Los jóvenes cristianos y católicos son fácilmente impresionables y la presencias de la autoridad o jerarquía les aflojan el criterio.

La derecha y la ultraderecha españolas saben que la juventud de España sigue indignada y sabe que los indignados nunca apoyaría a la derecha.

Es por ello que le trae el espectáculo y les convoca en formato summer camp para darles una sensación fugaz de pertenencia, seguridad y cohesión solo para arrancarles el voto usando a los extranjeros como carnada y confundiendo a los locales para que no piensen con criterio. Está claro que después de las elecciones, a estos jóvenes los traicionarán, les seguirán quitando derechos y arruinándoles el porvenir con políticas de derecha.

Estas imágenes revelan los grupos de jóvenes incautos venidos de otros países que funcionan como cebo para que los jóvenes españoles cristianos y católicos cedan su voto a la derecha aun estando indignados.

Religión + política una vieja alianza realmente perversa. Ojalá los jóvenes de hoy en día sean menos ingenuos de lo que hemos sido las generaciones anteriores y no crean en estas manipulaciones.

An impressive global program for the 7th edition of the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia is taking place around May 17th with hundreds of events planned in over 50 countries. The Day’s activities take place among growing international tensions between progressive developments and reactionary outbursts, including the now infamous Ugandan ‘anti-gay’ bill which again risks being passed in the Parliament this very week.

All over the world, thousands of activists are gearing up for the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia, also known by its acronym IDAHO. This year’s IDAHO will break records of mobilisation and outreach, as an estimated 50 million people will be exposed to campaign messages in about 50 countries, calling for an end to discrimination and violence against people on the grounds of sexual orientation and/or gender identity.

Y es aquí cuando nos damos cuenta que países como los Estados Unidos, los miembros de la UE, el bloque musulmán y africano, padecen y generan problemas sociales de raíz, en donde a pesar de proclamarse abanderados del progreso y los derechos civiles, su mismo sistema genera situaciones de dio y falta de convivencia profundas, falta de solidaridad y humanidad sobre la cual las nuevas generaciones se movilizan.

Factores como las tradiciones arraigadas, la diferencia vista como peligro, la religión opuesta a la espiritualidad y la insistencia en la segregación de todo, tipo hacen que sea imposible para muchos jóvenes poder seguir viviendo.

Tenemos una gran incapacidad de percibirnos como seres humanos, como un grupo heterogéneo y plural, lo cual sin duda tiene su raíz en la insistente actitud de superioridad que por siglos la sociedad europea occidental ha proclamado ante el mundo. esta insistencia en la diferencia, en la clasificación y en la estratificación solo ha logrado que algunos se perciban como validos y otros como repudiables. Esta diferenciación ha otorgado a bullyiers el derecho a abusar y molestar a sus victimas. les ha permitido pensarse superiores, mejores o validos.

Es posible que nuestra evolución nos lleve algún día a considerar a todos los seres humanos como válidos sin necesidad de tener que transformarse, aparentar o dejar de ser si mismos.

Rainbow Cities is an European conference part of AHEAD (Against Homophobia. European Local Adminstration Devices. Currently being held in Barcelona with the purpose of creating a white paper on LGBT successful practices and public policies to be used a guideline for policy makers and local governments across the EU.

Some highlights on the first day of the conference would be:

A general tension between EU policies, local initiatives and social realities reflected on a very wide variety of points of view across the the 27 states of the union. eastern and western Europe perspectives and legislation. Being very different culturally and historically as Roman Kuhar from the University of Ljubljana (Slovenja) revealed on his presentation, Western and Eastern European countries show the whole spectrum of Homonegative attitudes towards LGBT diversity in their societies.

In contrast a very big number of educational, social and civil society initiatives to fight homophobia are taking place in all countries and a network that connects them seem to be a very urgent need to articulate a powerful change in the future of the young generations. The tools seem to be there but the interconnection channel between thm seem to be non-existent.
The Italian network RE.A.DY as presented by Luca Cipriani from the Torino Town hall seem to have no political objections or inconveniences for their activities during any government (left or right winged) a presentation that really generated doubts among participates knowing the current realities widespread in the news about the conservative government and lgbt rights in Italy.

Even when LGBT and the Fight against Homophobia is generally underfunded in most countries of the union, we could say there is a generalized awareness and a positive trend in the EU for achieving more and better standards for LGBT communities and homophobia eradication. We just hope underfunding is just a temporary situation and not an strategy to keep activists quiet and networks grow as strong as RE:A:DY claims to be to make homophobia a problem of the past.

Multidiscrimination and Interseccionality are also on the spotlight of the conference. This approach considers discrimination as being possible from multiple aspects combined with sexual orientation and gender identity as could be religion, origin, social or economic background, etc.

Conclusions are still to be heard and hopefully a very good with the withe paper will be done.

Semaine du Salon du Meuble à Milan, l'ambiance normale des festivités et le zum-zum-zum que courre et une blague: “ Ne mange pas du poulet, car ça peut te transformer...en pédé car ils sont tous hormonés! “. Cela n'étonne jamais dans une ambiance de salon, boire du bon Barolo, manger du parmeggiano, critiquer l'iPad des autres ou regarder les nouvelles créations et tout cela avec le bon accent italien. Mais ce qui m'étonne, c'est l'origine de la blague.

Il y a une semaine ou deux, la presse énervée a commenté Evo Morales et son discours de l'ouverture du Sommet sur les changements climatiques à Cochabamba. Il a offert la nouvelle à des milliers de participants politiquement correct. En parlant des aliments génétiquement modifiés il a exprimé un commentaire que certains ont pris pour son idée sur les origines de l'homosexualité : les poulets hormonés.

Selon, le président bolivien : « Quand on parle de poulet, il est rempli d'hormones féminins et les hommes qui mangent ces poulets perdent leurs virilité, ce qui explique la présence de plus en plus des homosexuels dans le monde.» . Déjà en 2005, il avait mentionné que manger du poulet pourrait rendre les hommes chauves. Cela nous laisse penser que le leader bolivien ne mange pas du poulet, vu sa chevelure épaisse. Pour lui, le poulet est un des symboles de la décadence capitaliste avec KFC. Les théories de Morales ne semblent pas avoir été immédiatement acceptées par la communauté scientifique. Après tout, si on suivant ce raisonnement, il suffirait de mettre des hormones mâles dans les poulets pour transformer les homosexuels en hétérosexuels.

Le cabinet du gouvernement d'Evo Morales jure qu'il ne voulait pas provoquer une telle polémique ou faire un commentaire à caractère «homophobe». Le ministère des relations extérieures a tenté de rectifier le tir deux jours après la déclaration du président : « Ce n’est qu’un commentaire: manger du poulet hormoné peut affecter notre propre corps. Ce point de vue a été confirmé par des scientifiques et même par l'Union européenne qui a interdit l'utilisation de certaines hormones dans les aliments. Le gouvernement affirme donc ceci, selon des études qui ont montré que les hormones sexuelles dans les aliments peuvent causer des anomalies génitales chez les garçons.» Le document n'a pas apaisé toutes les critiques - surtout depuis la presse internationale a ajouté que le parti au pouvoir a toujours été considéré comme moins favorable aux homosexuels que Morales.

La Bolivie est un pays connu pour sa pauvreté, mais il est aussi plus peut être le plus riche que certains quand il s'agit de droits des homosexuels. Jetez tous un oeil à la nouvelle Constitution qui a été approuvée en Janvier 2009, et plus particulièrement à l'article 14, paragraphe 2.

Ce texte est très clair: «L'Etat interdit et sanctionne toute forme de discrimination fondée sur le sexe, l'identité sexuelle de la couleur, âge, orientation sexuelle, origine, culture, nationalité, citoyenneté, langue, croyances religieuses, l'idéologie, l'appartenance politique ou philosophique, l'état matrimonial , la situation économique ou sociale, le type de profession, niveau d'éducation, d'invalidité, de grossesse ou d'autres facteurs qui ont pour objet ou pour effet de détruire ou de compromettre la reconnaissance, la jouissance ou l'exercice, sur un pied d'égalité, les droits de chacun. "

En soixante-dix mots, le gouvernement bolivien a fait plus pour les gays que, peut-être, tout le continent latino-américain avaient pendant des siècles. Five years have passed since we started this project with the support of the NYU Fales Library, NYC LGBT Center and Visual Aids. Now AmorUniversaLove moves to Europe to start a new journey starting in Barcelona.

In a new and very different context, the historical research and artistic references have grown exponentially, new points of view, cultures and information have become part of an already eclectic body of work.

The first Barcelona preview exhibition will include a collection of works from cartoonists and graphic novel artists from Catalonia, Interviews with local activists who shaped the path of what the we enjoy today in Spain, being of the countries in the world with equal Civil rights granted to the LGBT community, and a press board where the history of recent years can be checked at a glance.

This first preview exhibition will be held at the main hall of the CCOO (Workers Guild of Catalonia) to celebrate the annual day against homophobia, trying to capture the attention of companies and syndicates about homophobia at the workplace. We have gathered 4 experts that will discuss on a workshop facts about this issue and testimonials of the subtle way discrimination is currently held in many companies and multinationals.

It is an exciting experience to develop a whole new research about the struggles people and leaders have been trough in Spain and specially in Catalonia during and after Franco´s dictatorship and the way certain things still remain in everyday life.

We have found that Catalonia´s LGBT history is full of initiatives, creative leaders and vision that still fight for a better life and understanding of sexual diversity.

Research and materials are still in development, new artists, organizations and publications will certainly be included and hopefully very soon, the whole project will be traveling across towns and be exhibited in local libraries and community centers.

Straight Couple got court 1 month in prison for kissing in public !

A British couple was sentenced to one month in jail for kissing in a restaurant in Dubai. The situation came up last November when Ayman Najafi, 24, marketing consultant, and Charlotte Adams, 25, a real estate agent, are, according to witnesses, the touching and kissing passionately at a dinner with friends at a restaurant by the sea.
Najafi working in Dubai for 18 months and Adams was visiting the country. Despite the charges, the couple said in a hearing before the Court of Appeal of Dubai, being the victim of a big mistake.
The police have been called to the restaurant around 2 am by a woman who sat with the children, on a bedside table and claimed that the daughter has to be disturbed by statements sense of affection between Najafi and Adams. After the arrest the two were subject to alcohol testing, which proved positive.
At the hearing, the defense attorney, Hosany al Khalaf, said the couple admitted to have been kissed on the face, but denied any intention of breaking the law. What was not sufficient as it was eventually convicted and also had to pay a fine of 198 euros to be in a public place after having consumed alcohol - which is banned in Dubai.
The two ended up being released after paying a bail and awaiting the final verdict, which will be read on April 4.
The two Britons are not the first victims of the laws of Dubai. Last year, Michelle Palmer, 36, and Vince Acors, 34, were sentenced to three months in prison for having sex on the beaches of the country.

He says that in most of the cases, the wife is an older woman who has failed to find a partner, and so is willing to enter such a marriage in order to have a child. In a minority of the cases the wife is a lesbian.

Martin called the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) when John and James, who had become bonded with Martin and his partner after years in their care, were about to become free for adoption. That meant, under Florida law, the state would have to seek a new family that would be eligible to adopt the boys. James was an infant when placed in Martin’s home and this is the only family he has ever known. John was four at the time and had already suffered the loss of being separated from his biological family. He was so traumatized when he arrived in Martin’s home that he didn’t speak at all. Just when he was finally overcoming that loss and beginning to bond with his new family, he could have to be uprooted once again. The thought that John would have to be put through the loss of another family was unbearable to Martin and his partner. Martin asked the ACLU if there was anything we could do.

We were committed to doing everything possible to do away with this destructive law, and of course we were moved by Martin’s story. So we filed a petition to adopt on his behalf in Florida juvenile court. We argued that the gay exclusion cannot be a basis to deny Martin’s petition because that law is unconstitutional. John and James were represented by separate counsel who argued that the law violates their constitutional rights as well.

The Nazis and the Gays

At one time it was fashionable to claim that the Nazis accepted homosexuality. Partly this was a way to slur the Nazis [as if they need slurring], and partly a reflection of the suppressed homoeroticism of Nazi visual expression. What was overlooked until the 1970s, and the publication of a series of articles by James Steakley in the Toronto Body Politic (quite possibly the best bi-weekly ever.

In recent years this forgetting has been overcome. Thanks to the efforts of Steakley, Richard Plant and Burchhard Jellonek, as well as the publication by Hans Heger [pseud.] of his memoirs, and the play Bent by Martin Shaw, the suffering of gays under the Third Reich has become well known. Now the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC makes sure to explicate the issues involved.

The total number of gays killed seems to have been about 15,000 [figures from Jellonek], mostly by being worked to death. Gays were not sent as gays to extermination camps. This is massively smaller than the devastation visited on Jewish, Gypsy and Serbian populations. But documenting the Nazi attacks on homosexuals is not part of a "catch-up" game with Jews, or other groups. It is rather an exposing of the possible effects of dehumanizing any group.

Recently some members of the American Religious Right [a diverse group that should no more be demonized than any other], have taken to denying the gay holocaust, and in fact asserting that the Nazi part was essentially homosexual. This is nonsense, and not one serious historian countenances the charge. Nevertheless the book - The Pink Swastika - which makes this charge has been subjected to a line by line refutation, available via here.

Tales and biographies about samurai homosexuality confirm for me, that sex is one of the greatest expressions of affection, courage and partnership. Albert Green vividly remembers the first time he saw the home of the Rev. Ed Olszewski, the priest who cared for him when he was 11.

"The first day, I was so excited. I went running through the church. Everything was so pretty -- it was like a mansion. It had 12 bedrooms and six bathrooms. It was humongous," said Green, 46, who lives in Lynnwood.

Green remembers the mysterious chute that dropped dirty clothes right down to the laundry room, the giant bowl filled with silver dollars and the cool stuff in the priest's bedroom: a little fridge with soft drinks in it, a popcorn machine, the soft rug in front of his bed.

He also remembers that Olszewski didn't wait long to establish that their relationship would be sexual.

Green said that first night, they went to Olszewski's bedroom and drank some wine. Then Olszewski took out some Vaseline and "he was rubbing it on me, on my front and my back. He put it up into my rectum. I felt something really weird. I just turned over and felt something else go inside of it."

A former airline attendant who became interested in politics by way of unions, presiding on boards of various airline related trade unions before being elected to the Althing in 1978 as a Social Democrat. Much like in the U.S., Iceland has spent the last 40 years becoming increasingly conservative politically and so Sigurdardóttir found herself in the opposition party again and again. La “representación” camp de la masculinidad en la identidad gay-leather

Desde los años 50 se venía fraguando la imagen del “macho” promocionada por los medios de comunicación de masas y convirtiéndose así en toda una convención cultural. Dicha convención reside en el cambio cultural respecto al cuerpo masculino producido en los Estados Unidos durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial y los años de la post-guerra. La exhibición de poder, vigor, fuerza y masculinidad agresiva favorecía una imagen nacional que regresaba al antiguo mito de los conquistadores del oeste: hombres rudos, fornidos y arrojados que con trabajo y sudor consiguen levantar un país. Michael Bronski lo especifica de esta forma:

La presentación del cuerpo masculino en la cultura norteamericana comenzó a cambiar después

de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Los hombres que regresaban de la contienda se sentían más a gusto con su aspecto físico. Las fotos en revistas como Life y Look mostraban soldados y marines (casi todos de raza blanca) informalmente descamisados o haciendo gala de cuerpos musculosos trabajando en la base o en el frente. Después de la guerra, que los hombres cubrieran sus torsos en la playa era una práctica aceptada, moda que cambió cuando las fuerzas armadas, en un intento por conservar su personal, distribuyeron sólo bañadores para sus tropas. (cfr. Bronski 1998:89).

Desde entonces, la publicidad, el cine, las artes figurativas y la música contribuyeron a construir una imagen consciente de la masculinidad, al poner el énfasis sobre todo en códigos heteropatriarcalmente asumidos y al elaborarlos con patrones comportamentales marcados como viriles. La masculinidad se leerá por lo tanto como “no-debilidad” y, así asociada a valores tales como la fuerza, el control, la impasibilidad y la agresividad.

Son los Estados Unidos, que no tienen rival cultural, los que indiscutiblemente han impuesto al resto del mundo su ideal de masculinidad. Como ejemplos significativos nos remontaremos en el tiempo hasta tres iconos culturales norteamericanos que han servido de modelos cooperando en la construcción de esta hipervirilidad y que posteriormente fraguarán en la identidad gay-leather: Marlon Brando en la películaSalvaje, el vaquero de Marlboro y, ya en los años 80, Arnold Schwarznegger como Terminator.

The library of green magazine issues just got bigger. Genre, a US magazine for gay men recently published their very own 'green issue'. Not many people get to say they bought a gay magazine for the articles, but I just did. I have to say, I'm really impressed. The green theme actually shows up throughout the magazine (unlike some of the other green issue contenders in which a couple articles and a page on green styles seems to suffice). For instance, did you know that C-N2 offers a line of bamboo underwear, including briefs, tanks, boxer briefs and trunks? Finally, some cool stuff for guys. Lots of other green products, feature articles, and even some humorous green bashing to round things out a bit. Kudos to the good green gays!

It makes me guess it is the Sustainable Development week what the Queers are doing now to make earth clean?

Harvey Milk bought his 35mm Nikon rangefinder--a Nippon Kogaku--while serving in the Navy in the 1950's. Although Harvey made few images of his personal life early on, he began photographing more soon after his discharge.

For Harvey, the subject that continued for many years to have the greatest visual appeal was men--men from behind, men close-up, men sleeping, men cruising, men parading, men relaxing. Scott Smith, later Harvey's long-term lover and the executor of his estate, would become Harvey's favorite model, often posing for an entire roll of film in a single setting under his obsessive direction. The many images of Scott to be found in the archive exhibit a heartfelt intimacy, friendship, domesticity, and desire, revealing the photographer's true love for his subject. Although there are a number of sexually explicit photographs in the archive, I have decided not to include them in the exhibition in the belief that some images belong solely in the realm of privacy and legend.

I learned about Adam and Andy 6 years ago when I was doing my research about gay comics online. At that time I was working in Lima, the capital of Peru, managing the section called “Lima Gay” for a very open minded web site. When I saw Adam and Andy I fell in love with the likable characters. Since I was a boy, I very much enjoyed reading my favorites such as Superman, Batman or Spiderman. They fulfilled my fantasies of superheroes because even when I would dream, those were the gay males in my mind and I always wished I could have that kind of story. Finally, I found Adam and Andy and thier creator James Asal Jr.

I never imagined that years later I would have the opportunity to interview him. Going into an artist’s world is always to a new opportunity to discover a fascinating and powerful mind. Artist tend to havesensitive souls that carry a huge spectrum of ideas.

James is a skillful, talented and very nice man. A person committed to his ideas and art. He is a cartoonist, an illustrator, a gay artist who got the inspiration and the courage to give us a wonderful gay comic.

It is a good opportunity to re-take this blog born from the universal love project, thinking about the Masculine Role in contemporary societies.

A role that has been changing very slowly. A "comfortable" role for most men who apparently get the power, the money and the rights in most cultures and who have never questioned it or re-examined it.

From here and with the basis of the historical research on sexual diversity I extend an invitation to think about a new masculinity that may open the opportunity to affection, vulnerability, shared power and opportunities। A masculinity that is not afraid of sharing the privileges and that aims to build societies hand by hand with femininity and all other possible gender identities.

In Colombia, as in many other countries Homo, Bi, Trans, Lesb, are very hard issues to come to terms with when you are 12 to 20 years old and do not have an educational or economic support that let you speak up freely, so our purpose is to help these boys and girls grow strong from their inside.
